Short Bio

I have been dedicated to painting since 2000 and have exhibited in juried shows in San Diego. My chosen medium is oil. Much of my work in the past has reference to our border. Even these, in a playful way seemed to suggest borders to me or a response to them. I was born in Caracas, Venezuela and as a family we immigrated here in 1959. I witnessed many riots and violence as a child. These past months have been agonizing to watch. These past years have been difficult to live in a country my parents believed was Democratic. I turned to color and abstraction as my way to survive fear. This project has absorbed me for over two years.

Statement

Pentaments-Borderline Gestures is a series of paintings I began in 2018.  I established some parameters and slowly worked my way to final paintings.  They are reductive images with gesture
that imply rather than describe something. The series is painted in primary and secondary colors utilizing five abstract shapes.
